Dr. Priya Maharaj explains: I am an Osteopathic Family Practice physician. As a Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.), I have received training in family medicine and in addition, I have specialized training in the neuromusculoskeletal system which allows me to offer whole person care. Osteopaths are taught to apply hands on medicine – Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT).
OMT requires a hands-on, whole body approach to diagnose health problems, treat dysfunctions, preserve good health, and prevent the spread of disease. In addition, OMT enables D.O.s to treat and diagnose injuries and illnesses and has been found to be an effective treatment for individuals suffering from conditions ranging from back pain, migraines, headaches, menstrual pain, sinus disorders.
We are trained to treat people, not just symptoms. We practice medicine that promotes good health. As your physician, I encourage you to learn more about osteopathic medicine. Visit the website www.osteopathic.org to become more educated on your physician who is a D.O. |
